| In
2006 our team is working in western Kenya, not
far from both the Uganda and Sudan borders, with the people
of West Pokot. This is a dry, high desert like region,
surrounded by beautiful mountains. The people have welcomed
us warmly into their community and are excited about this
years project.W. Pokot is a bush region that has been
best described as “so poor the people don’t
have trash!” It is desolate and far off the beaten
path. After a 24 hour jet flight to Nairobi, it’s
another 9-10 hours on very rough roads into W. Pokot.
Isolation and dependence on many of the same survival
skills used for thousands of years creates an environment
ripe for starvation in drought years, malaria, malnutrition
and lack of education. There are hundreds of orphans fending
for themselves in the small region we’re working
in. Family members try to move orphans from hut to hut
to be fed and protected. The people live in simple, hand
made huts crafted from grass they carry from a nearby
river. |

overwhelming in the heat of the day- steal too hot too
touch- work shifts of no more than 30 minutes- exhaustion
and heat stroke... but God is great and we not only survived
but had the opportunity...read more |
